2860 did not pull the royal train in 1939. That was a sister locomotive, 2850. 2860 wasn't built until 1940 and the royal visit was in 1939. 2850, I believe, is located in the railway museum in Delson, Quebec.

I remember travelling via the OAGB junction at Ashton in December 1984. When the line to Hadfield was converted from 1500 v DC in December 1984 they had to rebuild the junction for the Stockport line at Guide Bridge because the platforms it connected with were taken out of use at that time. As a result the Stockport - Stalybridge trains (still a regular service in those days) were, for a short time, rerouted to run from Denton Junction to Ashton (served in place of Guide Bridge) via OAGB Junction This was probably the last time that section of line saw regular passenger services.

My brother rented a garage off Mr. Lilley in Borehamwood Herts. my brother had built his son Martin a Lotus 7 from a kit. Ken tuned and took care of race rally cars his account ran an Austin Healy 3000 road car and a fully prepared AH3000 rally car, I sometimes joined him as a map reader in small events, more to check the car than win, great fun chasing a mini cooper around and going between gate posts sideways. Brother then took on a TVR dealership and at the same time took on the building of the last 37 Elva Couriers sports cars from Trojan. TVR were not doing so well and by chance Martin asked about getting a TVR and brother Ken warned him against it. Well over the next few months strange things happened as Ken caught a glimpse of Martins father at TVRs Blackpool. Long story short the Lilleys bought TVR and Martin became the manager/ director. Me I just plodded on with my MG Magnette and Mini Cooper S. I was employed driving tunnel boring machines for the London tube, working 8 hr. shifts so had time to pop over to Kens and drive a few hot cars. The company I worked for bought a fleet of Morris cars, vans and trucks for the projects, Morris Travelers, 5cwt. and 15 cwt vans and 5 ton flat beds. So thanks for putting up your video and reminding me of the good old days.

Hiya, you're right. My directory's say that as well but I can only remember that path leading to the slag heaps where we made a bike obstacle course, magic. The station btw was the only one that had all female staff and line is the man Vic to Wigan line. At about 4.30 pm the Glasgow express would go along it always pulled by a clan class loco. The main highlight of agecroft shed was that it had an eastern B1 Kudu loco based there, very unusual. The line at the side of where the shed used to be was the man Vic to Bolton and or bacup line. Bacup is long gone of course but the Bolton run still exists. Once again many thanks. More very happy memories.

Hiya, just watched your agecroft piece. Lots of memory's. I'm afraid tho you were no where near the shed. When you came out from under the bridge you turned far too soon. Should have kept straight on for about a 1000 yards. That would have taken you to the old canal bridge. The cinder path started there. In the 50 & 60s you'd have passed the scrapyard. Lots of what we called coffee pots. Spent a lot of time there. Happy days.

The commentary at the start of this video is incorrect. The video starts at Arthur’s Lane where the railway emerged from the cutting behind Carr Lane in Greenfield. It then went over a single overbridge before continuing over an embankment. The railway then cossed over another single overbridge at Chew Valley Road before crossing over another small embankment which then formed and ran into the first of two viaducts across the valley, linking the Friezland part of Greenfield with the rest of Greenfield. Friezland station was at the top of another embankment or hill, and it was in between both viaducts. The railway then crossed the second viaduct and went into the goods yard at Friezland before leaving Greenfield and heading into Mossley via the tunnel at the Royal George junction.

Behind the Lucas Terrace Halt was a hand operated turntable - not long enough for turning Bullied Light Pacifics, which had to turn using the triangle shown in the initial diagram. Also behind the Halt was a large raised rectangular water reservoir which could be accessed by ladders which were often climbed by local kids in the area much to the worry of local parents!. Health and Safety was non-existent back then. just to the east of the water tower were banks on which there were many chicken coops! There was also an underground air raid shelter just to the left and west of the shed looking towards Friary. Played there many times as a kid!

Cheers David. I've walked that path a few times in the past and never realised it was an old trackbed. Doh! Used to walk from The Knoll mill to The Moorlands youth centre many years ago. Best wishes from South Wales.

It must have been quite the structure with the viaducts and lines in place.

How many memories did this bring back! I was born and raised on Latimer Street in 1959. Attended Alexandra Park infants and juniors followed by Greenhill then Hathershaw. Spent many a happy hour on Glodwick lows including many climbs up and down the goat path. Very happy days.

It was the same for us as we haven't been there for years. I also attended Alexandra Park.

The English countryside in May, still no finer place anywhere in the world. Vancouver was a nice city, but like many in North America it's on the decline.

Similar tales can be told of so many world-wide places.

Haven't visited Oldham since 78-79 but from videos it's changed an awful lot. Alenxandra Park seems much like it did, that was the posh part, a fine Victorian Park.

I will be doing a video of the park in the future.
